Anyone else feel like ever since the internet became more anonymous, people started behaving worse? I mean even this forum is a good example... There's some real pricks on here.

Well obviously sherlock. It's literally been proven by a psychologist.

Elaborate?

Philip Zimbardo. He did a study about it. Participants who wore hoodies over their faces, which offered them a sense of anonymity, were more likely to indulge in undesirable behaviours than those whos identities were shown. Same thing goes for the internet... We have screens hiding our faces, and so we feel like we can say whatever we want.

Okay but, am I the only one who thinks that can be a real problem?

No I agree. Anonymity has some very ugly consequences. The internet has become a vessel for online harrassment, unprovoked racism, the false spread of information and of course cybercrime. And because of the ability to be completely anonymous (with the right VPNS and browser extensions), these people will never be prosecuted for their behaviour. Especially as these people get the opportunity to separate their actions online to real life identity. In a process of dissociation, the online self becomes compartmentalised. So all of this behaviour, which as we know can literally ruin other peoples lives, doesn't actually mean much to the perpetrators. But you know, digital media giants have made multiple attempts at trying to filter out or label a lot of these negative/misleading posts, and they've had little to no success because of how fast these accounts can multiply. I've basically just given up all hope about trying to stop it, and just try to ignore it.

Yeah definitely agree with the last part. I don't get how people even get cyberbullied BTW. Like just turn your computer off.

I think you missed my point...
