I live in my mum's basement and she keeps calling me a troll. Anyone know what that means?

Does she mean like, the creature, or the online term?

I think online term...?

Oh no I don’t know which one is worse. Well I’ll give you the long explanation. Listen, humans have always had the potential for the unprovoked vindictive, but the possibility of the internet finally allowed it to thrive. The moment we were given shields of protection (computer screens, if you catch my drift), we could just about start saying anything, and for those inclined, that’s a very useful thing. Of course, with such a level of inculpability, that behaviour started to develop very quickly. And thus we have the internet troll. The earliest documented form of what we now call a troll was a net.weenie. In the early internet ages, they were people who were rude online for no apparent reason other than that they wanted to be. However, while they may have been obnoxious and annoying, they don’t hold nearly the level of malevolence that the word troll does now. And this type of troll developed in the late 80’s, maybe even early 90’s. The first time the term "troll" was used in an online capacity happened on December 14th, 1992 in the usenet group alt.folklore.urban. This referred to when people would infiltrate and spam newsgroups, forums and chat pages, and suddenly people started calling everyone a troll if they were being annoying.

However, trolling truly took a toxic turn when 4chan came around. In 2003, with the birth of 4chan, trolling became something that someone chose to do, and that’s when it really became toxic. Especially since everyone normalised it. It didn’t matter if 4chan users found an 11 year old girl's address and phone number in 2010 and sent death threats because it was just for the ‘lulz’. People would say things that you could only really say online because of how horrible they were- telling people to kill themselves, making disgusting rape jokes and just a whole lot of incel behaviour. So yeah, now the world troll is used for a variety of inflictions, but I’d be pretty offended if your mum was referring to an internet troll.

I'm not reading all of that.
